On countless occasions, I’ve driven past herds of cattle grazing in the rolling hills of south Saskatchewan and dreamed of being a cowboy - rounding up the herd with my trusty equine companion. I was recently able to live out this dream, just south of Wood Mountain. I joined Chay Anderson along with his father Lloyd and his mother Nyla, and we drove over two hundred yearling steers nearly twenty-six kilometres. It was a completely new experience for me, only the third time I’ve ridden a horse and was a day filled with learning. What I learned was that the job of a rancher is sun up to sun down as they work tirelessly to care for their animals.
