I spent three glorious days at Pine Island Resort, catching my limit on fish and basking in the boreal forest I love so much in northern Saskatchewan.
The resort is one of Canada's premiere fishing lodges and is located on a widening of the Churchill River system on Black Bear Island lake. I drove up to Missinipe, north of La Ronge, to catch a 15 minute air flight to the island with Osprey Wings. I must admit to being surprised at just how beautiful northern Saskatchewan looks from the air.
When I arrived I was greeted like a family member by managers Vickie and Bart Bricksaw. Although it was my first time this far north in the province, it felt like coming home.
My next two and a half days were spent watching sunrises and sunsets, dropping my lure into the water and pulling out dozens of fish, and enjoying the calm and serenity of the green half of our province. My local guide, Richard, cooked up a fantastic shore lunch and made sure to take me to all the best fishing spots. Because of his expertise and knowledge, I was able to snag myself a 25 pound, 43 inch northern pike.
See for yourselves in my video just how wonderful northern Saskatchewan and it's world-class fishing are.
