Can I tell you guys a secret?
I’ve fallen in love.
We met back in April, the 11th to be exact. I remember like it was yesterday. I was on my way home from a trip to Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park and I decided to take a detour through Shaunavon. As I pulled into town, I took a right turn off 5th Avenue onto Centre Street, and there it was: The Harvest Eatery and Fresh Market.
If I had to make a list of a few of my favourite small town gems I’ve encountered this year, Harvest Eatery & Fresh Market would be right at the top. By day, Garrett Thienes and his wife Kristy run the Harvest Fresh Market, which acts as a quick serve restuarant/coffee shop/bakery/deli where they source in a variety of locally grown or homemade products.
And by night, they shut down the fresh market and open up Harvest Eatery where they serve some of the best food you’ll find in Saskatchewan.
Since 2013, Harvest Eatery has been attracting customers from all over the province for their “Big City Dining, Small Town Hospitality.” They’ve been recognized in magazines and news articles across the country for their unique approach to cooking with Saskatchewan-grown ingredients and in 2016, Garrett—also known as "Chef Rusty"—took home gold at Gold Medal Plates in Regina.
I can’t say enough about Garrett, Kristy and what they’ve done for Shaunavon by opening Harvest Eatery & Fresh Market. Their “gourmet comfort food” is one of the best examples you’ll find to show someone that Saskatchewan’s food scene is alive and thriving.
You don’t have to leave the province to eat world-class food my friends. It’s waiting for you just down the road on the corner of 5th Ave. and Centre Street in Shaunavon, SK.
Thanks for reading.
