Recently, I had the opportunity to join up with the Regina Open Door Society during their first ever Hackathon event at Innovation Place in Regina. The Open Door Society helps immigrants and refugees settle into the community and find careers.
The goal of the Hackathon was to connect newcomers who have tech skills to technology companies in the city and offer them a venue to show prospective employers their stuff. I spent the afternoon with the Hackathon participants, watching them work together in teams to develop the best solution to the technology challenge each team was given. At the end of the day, they presented to a panel of judges and a winning team was chosen.
Take a look at how the teams handled their challenges and hear from Open Door Society event organizer, Victoria Flores, on how she and Innovation Saskatchewan came up with this creative concept.
